A thin wrought iron pedestal supports a green fish that is portrayed as if it were moving on the shaft, to whose body are attached eight brackets supporting the eight candle holders. The highest candle holder, next to the fish’s head, holds the ninth light, the shamash. Fishes feature in many of the artist’s works. They symbolise water, fertility and wisdom and are also associated with birth and the cyclic nature of time.
