Antonio Recalcati

100 x 81 cm

Mixed media on canvas

Two hands placed side by side with the thumbs touching are the dominant feature of this painting: dazzling rays of light shine out from the hands and a flame shoots up from the point where the thumbs are joined. The lamp is depicted as a human being whose eight fingers are the lights and the point where the thumbs meet is the ninth light, the shamash. With this work the artist celebrates life and light after centuries of darkness and the the innate ability of art to create a common ground that brings all the different languages, cultures and identities together.
